The typical size hot water tank is usually between 40 to 50 gallons that works well for a family of 4. There are larger sizes or Tankless Hot Water heaters available.

Try re-lighting your hot water tank. This is fairly easy. Give that a go first.  If your heater’s pilot goes out, you can relight it yourself. … Turn the gas regulator valve’s knob to “Pilot,” press down on it and hold it down. This starts the flow of gas to the pilot burner. On some water heater models, you press and hold down a separate red button to start the pilot burner gas flow.
